Geraniums

Geraniums are an old favourite and always remind me of my mother who was quite fond of them. When I was a child it seemed that every garden had hydrangeas and geraniums and ours was no exception.

They like full sun or semi-shade and no doubt because of their Mediterranean origin seem to be able to do well even in dry conditions.  They don't like wet feet but do seem quite happy growing in pots.

Geraniums are also known for their insect repelling qualities because of their strong scent and dotted around the edible garden can act as a deterrent to less desirable insects.

Years ago nearly every geranium I saw was red but these days more colours are readily available such as this vivid pink geranium grown here in a pot.
